Down Syndrome South Australia (DSSA) was established in 1974 (initially as Down’s Children Inc., soon after changing its name to Down Syndrome Society of South Australia Inc.) by a group of parents who were seeking support and opportunities for their children with Down Syndrome.
A membership-based organisation, DSSA joined other state and territory associations to create Down Syndrome Australia in 2011.
Discussions were held in early 2018 between Orana Australia Limited and Down Syndrome SA announced that they were joining forces to increase their impact in the lives of people with disability in South Australia. Both organisations share the same vision and are a good cultural fit, and together offer a fantastic opportunity to people with disability in SA.
On the 4th February 2019, the merger of Down Syndrome SA with Orana Australia Limited was successfully completed.
Orana and Down Syndrome SA look forward to a bright future where we will work together to create opportunities for people with disability to be part of a socially inclusive community.
